CEJA and our members and partners mourn the enormous and sudden loss of environmental justice champion Cecil Corbin-Mark.
As the Deputy Director and Director of Policy Initiatives at Harlem-based WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Cecil was a fierce and tireless fighter for environmental justice and he spent 26 years helping to build and strengthen the power of WE ACT, the community in Harlem and New York, and our broader movement.
Cecil was a passionate and powerful environmental justice advocate and the legacy he has left us is widely and deeply felt in countless organizations, coalitions, movements and many corners of the world. Whether in community meetings, the state capital, or the halls of congress, Cecil always kept the vision and voice of the people and communities he served at the heart of his efforts.
A talented and courageous leader, Cecil was also a compassionate, loving and loyal friend to so many. Our hearts go out to his family, loving community, and to everyone at WE ACT as they grieve this incalculable loss.
As an alliance of community-based California environmental justice organizations, we will honor Cecil’s memory by continuing to fight for the health and well-being of frontline communities, for just and equitable communities for all.
Please read the statement on Cecil’s passing from WE ACT here, and consider making a donation to WE ACT in honor of Cecil. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 2:30-4:00 PM EDT.
