We got so many wonderful submissions that we couldn’t pick just one! That being said, CEJA is excited to announce the TWO winners of our 25th Anniversary Youth Art Contest. Congratulations to Abigail Medina (age 17), whose artwork Rooted in Community, and Lauren Miller (age 22), whose artwork A Future Together, were both selected as the winning designs. Inspired by our 25th Anniversary theme - “Grounded in Community, Growing Through Action: 25 Years and Beyond” - these art pieces capture the essence of environmental justice and the power of communities coming together to build a healthier, more sustainable future.
Both young artists identify as being from an environmental justice community. Abigail describes her artistic intention as wanting to “show something beautiful can flourish from the determination of a community,” and Lauren wanted to “showcase CEJA’s values & commitment to instilling an environmentally just future that is community based” through her piece.
CEJA thanks every young artist who submitted their creative designs to us from across California. We were so inspired by your passion and vision for environmental justice, resilient communities, and a better future.
As the contest winners, Abigail and Lauren will each receive a $250 cash prize, and their designs will be featured on CEJA’s merchandise in our soon-to-launch online store. The online store will support CEJA’s organizing, advocacy, and community power-building efforts. Stay tuned for updates about the store launch and how you can support CEJA’s work by wearing these incredible designs!
